“Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that FEARETH the LORD, that DELIGHTETH GREATLY in his commandments. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth forever. Unto the upright there ariseth light
in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous. A good man showeth favor, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion. Surely he shall not be moved forever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD. His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies. He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth forever; his horn shall be exalted with honor. The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.” Psalm 112:1-10.
Very inspiring, powerful and encouraging words on the blessings that follow those who truly fear the Lord. And this should challenge and quicken us to walk in true fear of the Lord!
What does it mean to fear the Lord? From this psalm it is to GREATLY DELIGHT IN HIS COMMANDMENTS!
In Psalm 128:1, the fear of the Lord is said to mean to WALK IN HIS WAYS!
And in Psalm 34:11-14, we have a broader meaning of what the fear of the Lord is: 1) keep your tongue from evil, and the lips from speaking guile/false; 2) Depart from evil, and do good; 3) Seek peace, and pursue it! Blessed are the peace makers, for they shall be called the children of God-Mat.5:9.
All these words concerning the fear of God can be summed up as DELIGHTING GREATLY IN GOD’S WORDS AND JOYFULLY DOING/ CARRYING THEM OUT! It touches what we think in our hearts, what we say with our lips and what we do! It should all be in accordance with instructions from God’s word and acceptable to Him! Psalm 19:14
As we follow and walk in the fear of God as explained above, let these great blessings of Psalm 112 be our portion and our generation/children-being mighty in the land! Wealth and riches, good things coming to us; in darkness or hopeless situation, light shines on our paths, hence, God makes a way where seems no way; never to be shaken no matter what is happening, no fear of anything or bad news because our heart is steadfast trusting the Lord, and knowing that the Lord Almighty is in control and has the final word, and will make all things work out for our good, glory to God!
May we continue walk in true fear of the Lord daily as described above, delight greatly in His words and joyfully do them, walk in all His ways-showing favour, compassion, helping the needy…God’s kingdom ways of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit! And may all these great blessings and much more be our portion from our generous, gracious and faithful heavenly Father God Almighty, in Jesus’ name!
