“But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. TAKE YE HEED, WATCH AND PRAY: for ye know not when the time is. For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his
work, and commanded the porter to watch. WATCH YE THEREFORE: for ye know not when the Master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: Lest coming suddenly He find you sleeping. And what I say unto you I say unto all, WATCH.” Mark 13:32-37
Very inspiring and powerful teaching and warning from the very mouth of our Lord Jesus Christ on our being alert in the Spirit, watchful and prayerful in this very end of the end-times. In context, this was the Lord Jesus’ warning to His disciples towards the end of His life and ministry on earth (comp. Mat. chapters 24-25; Luke 21) concerning things that would precede His second coming, and how His disciples/followers, hence, we should get ourselves ready!
Note: if these warning words on readiness, watchfulness and being prayerful were said by the Lord over two thousand years ago and the disciples then noted it well, how much more we who are living in this very age when we see these prophecies of things that would precede the Lord’s second coming fulfilled in our eyes, then take more seriously these words of the Lord!
Therefore, as the Lord Jesus stated above in this passage as well as that of other passages-Matthew and Luke, may we take note of what He expects us to be doing! Be on guard and alert! It is a military order, meaning first of all take care of your walk with the Lord and relationship with Him and His word-to be serious with that and not to sleep spiritually!
Also take care, be focused on the assignment given to you by the Commanding Officer! Don’t joke or play around or be distracted! But see that the assignment is carried out! Hence, be about God’s kingdom agenda- how to touch and influence others for Christ and His kingdom characterized by righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit wherever you are. (Rom.14:17); both by your living out Christ- like life and also sharing the gospel to bring others to Christ.
Also be prayerful, hence, pray without ceasing, maintaining connection and communication with the Lord by the Spirit.
All these are possible as we acknowledge the Holy Spirit of God dwelling in us and yielding ourselves to Him in our thoughts, words and actions- thinking, saying and doing/carrying out the promptings of the Spirit, as we eagerly wait and expect the Lord’s coming, amen.
May the Lord help us live this way daily in watchfulness and being prayerful!
Have a blessed, victorious and fruitful and watchful week and daily life in Christ Jesus our Lord, amen.
